Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy Student Named Division 4 Young Marine of the Year
Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy (LAVCA) junior, London, is making waves nationally with her outstanding leadership and service. London, 16, of New Orleans, has been named the Division 4 Young Marine of the Year by The Young Marines, a national youth organization dedicated to developing leadership, citizenship, and a drug-free lifestyle among youth ages eight through high school graduation.
A proud member of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Young Marines unit in Harvey, La., London exemplifies excellence both inside and outside the classroom. Along with her rigorous academic work at LAVCA, she is participating in a dual enrollment program at Louisiana State University. Her achievements extend to the athletic field as well—she is active in basketball, volleyball, softball, and track—and she is a dedicated member of the National Honor Society and a community volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank.
London’s education at LAVCA gives her the flexibility to pursue her passions in academics, leadership, and service. LAVCA empowers students across Louisiana to learn at their own pace and on their own schedule, providing a supportive and challenging learning environment that fosters independent thinking and personal growth.
London, who holds the rank of master sergeant in the Young Marines, will represent Division 4 when she competes for the title of National Young Marine of the Year, the highest honor the organization awards.
Her future is just as bright. London plans to join the U.S. Marine Corps after graduation and pursue a degree in animal science.
She credits much of her success to her family and mentors, including her mother, MGySgt Tashal Williams, USMC (Ret.), a 30-year Marine Corps veteran and dedicated adult volunteer with the Young Marines.
“Education is the key that unlocks success, knowledge, and opportunities. Education is priceless and the way to build a better future.” – London
At LAVCA, we are proud to celebrate students like London who are leading by example, both academically and in service to their community.
Congratulations, London!
