Curriculum For The Modern Student
Credit Recovery
At Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy (LAVCA), your student’s success is our top priority. Whether they’ve fallen behind or didn’t pass a course the first time, our credit recovery program is crafted to help them get back on track and achieve their goal of earning a high school diploma.
Flexible and Tailored Credit Recovery Options
Our credit recovery program includes:
- Courses Available Year-Round: Credit recovery courses are offered during the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms to provide multiple opportunities for students to catch up.
- Hybrid Max Block Schedule: Our unique schedule allows students to focus on year-long courses like Algebra I and Geometry while providing flexibility in other subjects like PE, Health, and specific electives.
- Credit by Proficiency Exam: Students can demonstrate mastery and earn credit by passing proficiency exams.
- Credit Acceleration: For students who show mastery in a subject, they can move through coursework faster, allowing them to stay on pace with their cohort.
Types of Credit Recovery
- Behind Cohort Credit Recovery: Students identified as behind by our Counseling Team will develop a customized plan to get back on track using our credit recovery options.
- Summer School Credit Recovery: Students who need to make up credits over the summer are offered tailored courses to ensure they stay on track.
- Credit Acceleration for Retakes: Students who didn’t pass a course the first time can retake it with options for proficiency exams or self-paced coursework to ensure they succeed.
Comprehensive Support Process
LAVCA’s dedicated administration and counselors work closely with students and families before the end of Q4 to plan for summer credit recovery. At the end of each semester, our High School Team, including academic administrators, assistant principals, lead teachers, CTE coordinators, data managers, and school counselors, identify students who would benefit from our credit recovery program. This proactive approach ensures that students have every opportunity to succeed.
