High School Academics
Curriculum that Unlocks Possibility
Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy (LAVCA) knows success is not a single destination, and the journey can take many turns. But no matter the path, we believe in unlocking every learner's potential by meeting them where they are and helping them reach their goals.
Explore Our Courses
As students move through middle school and into high school, their work becomes increasingly independent. High school courses are designed for students targeting a four-year university, a local community college, or an immediate career.
In high school courses, students:
- Learn grade-level content
- Complete coursework that might require writing or research projects
- Tackle problems that require analytical thinking
Stride Career Prep
Your teen can gain a competitive edge for the future—whether that includes college, a career, or both. Stride Career Prep at LAVCA gives students the opportunity to explore career options and take part in specialized, career-related experiences. Students can choose from a broad range of courses in these career pathways: Arts, AV & Communications; Business Management; Health Sciences; Information Technology; and Manufacturing & Trades. They can also prepare to take industry-recognized certification exams upon graduation.**
Earn College Credit While in High School
LAVCA offers a dual enrollment program that allows students to take courses for high school and college credit through local Community College/University for high school and college credit, including Baton Rouge Community College, Louisiana State University–Eunice, University of New Orleans, Delgade Community College, Delta Community College, and Northshore Technical and Community College. New and returning students are eligible. Courses need to be approved by LAVCA prior to the student taking the course. Some community colleges have age requirements. Some courses have ACT/PLAN requirements. Students pay all higher education fees ($150 per three credit hours). High school counselors look at the overall student ability and approve the courses at the community college through a form that the community college provides.
*The Stride K12 high school catalog is a complete list of the high school courses Stride K12 provides. While LAVCA offers a comprehensive selection of courses, not every Stride K12 high school course is available to LAVCA students. Information on specific courses of study and available electives are provided upon enrollment. For details, please speak to an enrollment consultant during the enrollment process.
**Many Microsoft®️ Office certificates can be earned after completing one course. Other certificates require more classes to be better prepared, and students who participate in the program for at least two years will have further preparation for certification testing.
